Julian shifted in his chair with a sigh.
He’d been working on this column piece all afternoon and he’d still only written just over half of it. He was supposed to have finished and sent it by five this evening, but that deadline looked very unlikely with the amount he’d done. He ran a hand through his hair and closed his eyes, breathing deeply and trying to brainstorm anything he could put into words. It wasn’t like there weren’t enough sporting events to write about – hockey was an almost daily occurrence, and there were a plethora of other sports played, but Julian just couldn’t find the motivation to write about them. What he really wanted to do was go out and play them, experience them, be part of the game and the atmosphere. Sure, he travelled to watch said games but it wasn’t the same as actually being part of the team. Ever since he’d nearly paralysed himself last year, Jules had been sat on the sidelines for every sport game he witnessed. A football prodigy in high school, he’d had high hopes for the future – but those hopes had been ripped away from him with a swift swoop of the hand called fate. Now all he could do to be involved with sports was to write about them, and that was nowhere near as exciting as playing them. With a second frustrated sigh, Jules pushed himself up from his chair and walked into his kitchen, grabbing a glass of water and downing it in one gulp. He’d hardly slept the night before because he’d been up working, too, and what he both wanted and needed was some shut eye, but that was not a good option right now, considering the company he’d be keeping in an hour or so.
Bambi Stoltz was Julian’s ex girlfriend. They’d been together for a year and a bit before she’d disappeared suddenly, and everyone was ablaze with the talk of her going to rehab. The brunette guy had known she’d had problems but he figured they’d at least talk about it before she left so abruptly. Suffice to say, Jules took her disappearance pretty badly and that was how he ended up near paralysis that fateful night. He didn’t blame her, of course, but had she not left he would probably still be playing sports. Still, he didn’t live by ‘what if’s and ‘maybes.’ He’d moved past it, moved on and focused on his new career. He’d gotten used to the idea of never being able to play sports again, even though the thought invaded his mind every so often. He’d gotten used to not having Bambi around to piss about with. And then, almost suddenly, she was back in town, wanting to talk to him, wanting to see him. She explained her situation and how she’d been to rehab, how she didn’t want to dump all her problems on him so had left without saying anything. She explained how she was back in New York now and looking to attend college here, so she could stay around. There was a tiny flicker of hope when she’d explained that and whilst Jules would never admit it, he had cared deeply for Bambi and was glad to see her around again. He’d offered her a place to stay and, with her decline, instead offered an evening of frivolity, so the pair could catch up, smooth things out. He didn’t know whether he still had feelings for the petite brunette girl but he figured he’d soon find out.
Julian wandered into his bedroom to check himself over once in the mirror, making sure he looked presentable and not tired or worn out. He smoothed out the creases in his clothes with one hand quickly, before running that same hand through his hair. He checked his wristwatch and, seeing he had fifteen minutes before he expected Bambi to arrive, lit a cigarette and dragged on it. He wasn’t a hardcore smoker but he found they helped him relax when he’d had a stressful day. He breathed the smoke out deeply, watching it swirl around the room before taking another drag and repeating the motion. Finally, he stubbed it out when the doorbell rang, and he wandered towards his door, pulling it open lazily. ”Hey,” he murmured, his eyes appraising his ex girlfriend who stood in front of him, her hair hanging loose around her shoulders. He smiled a little, moving his eyes back up to meet hers. ”Come in,” he stepped back and offered her the space, waiting until she’d entered the apartment to close the door behind her. ”You look really good,” he observed, noticing she’d put on more weight and her skin was a healthier shade.

the timer for the oven went off just as bambi was stepping out of the room in her brothers place that was now hers. she could smell the lasagna that she had made before she got to the kitchen and it smelt amazing. she wasnt sure how it would taste, because she had only made it a few times but she hoped that it would be good enough. as she walked to the kitchen she looked around the place that she would now be calling home. at first she was planning on moving in with julian because she didnt want to stay in a hotel much longer and she didnt want to live at home, but when she told her brother the idea he completely disagreed and said she could move in with him instead. to bambi the idea of living with her brother was almost as bad as living with her mom, but she decided she would put up with it for as long as she could and then move out if she couldnt handle it. she felt like she wouldnt have been able to handle living with julian either though. the fact that she could see him with other girls, or that he could see her with other guys was something that she really didnt like. she knew that she still loved him and it would have been much to hard, even if she had her own guys to bring home with her. that was something she wouldnt be doing at simba's though, she wouldnt be bringing guys home with her because she knew he would kill them. so instead she would go to their place, like she was going to do that night. she was going to be taking the lasanga over to julians and they were going to talk things over and catch up alittle bit.
bambi knew that when she had just suddenly left she fucked things up with a lot of people. most of those people bambi didnt care about though. one of the few that she did care about just abandoning though was julian marcs, who at the time was her boyfriend. she knew that she was stupid for just leaving without talking to him, but she didnt want to put her problems on his shoulders to. she didnt want him to have to deal with her eating disorder. he had more important things to worry about, like football. she couldnt change the way that things happened though, she couldnt go back and talk to him and tell him that she was going to be gone for awhile but when she got back she would need him more than ever. she just had to accept that she had left without saying anything and basically ruined everything she had with him. she had a small hope of being able to fix things with him, but she wasnt going to expect much. she wouldnt blame julian if all he wanted was to just be friends with her and nothing more, she wouldnt even blame him if he hated her for just leaving. she knew things would never be the same as they were, not with him or with anyone really. everyone watched how she ate now or made sure she didnt go to the gym and it drove her crazy, even though she knew they were just making sure she was okay. she knew it would be the same thing with julian. he had known before that she had an eating disorder, but she denied it like crazy. it was out in the open now though, everyone knew.
the petite brunette girl checked herself over once more in the mirror before she left for julians place. her hair was flowing down over her shoulders, and her eye liner was as thick as usual. she had a pair of black leggings on and a simple sweater, because she knew she didnt have to dress up or impress julian with what she was wearing. after looking in the mirror for a few seconds she grabbed the lasagna off of the counter and walked out the door. she caught a cab and before she knew it she was being dropped off infront of julians place. she knocked softly on the door and felt the smile appear on her face as she saw julian infront of her. the happiness she felt when she saw him was unexplainable. ”hi,” she said to him softly, and then moved past him as he moved so that she could. ”thanks” she said to him as he commented on her appearance. she wasnt so sure that she felt that she looked good, but it was nice to hear him saw it. ”i made lasagna,” she said as if it wasnt obvious what she was carrying, ”if your not hungry i can just put it in your fridge and you can heat it up later.” as she looked back at him she felt nervous, she didnt know why though because she had never felt that way around him.

When he’d extended the offer for Bambi to move into his apartment on her return to New York, Julian had primarily been thinking of himself. Selfishly, Julian wanted to show her that he didn’t depend on her, and had moved on whilst she’d been gone. He almost wanted to make her jealous, as a childish reason to get back at her for leaving without saying anything to him. Of course, he’d soon realized the immaturity of his actions and had deposited of the idea as quickly as he had imagined it. After that, he really did just want a roommate, someone to hang out with during the day, to talk to, to share the rent with. Bambi had seemed like the perfect person for that because, despite their past, the two shared common ground on a lot of topics, and she was looking for a place to stay so she could leave the hotel she was staying in. However, her brother had put his foot in and stopped the pair from living together, claiming they could never be ‘just friends’ and as much as Julian denied it, he had a suspicion her brother was indirectly right. He knew that having Bambi around twenty four seven would be hard work on his no relationship status, because of their history and it would have taken him no less than a day to want her again. So he was kind of thankful that her brother had stepped in, because he figured that Simba was saving him a lot of trouble in the future.
And he knew that thought was right when he laid eyes on Bambi again, in the flesh, six months after he’d last seen her. He’d convinced himself that day that his feelings would not return because of how they’d left things, but he knew looking at her that they had every chance of returning. He’d welcomed her in graciously, offering her his space in his humble apartment. The food she bought filled the air with a delightful aroma and Julian’s stomach protested to the smell, his hunger levels rising. However, he wanted to speak with Bambi first, catch up on things, get answers for his questions. He could see that Bambi was feeling nervous as soon as she’d stepped into his apartment and he himself was a little apprehensive. People had been telling him he should hate her for what she did to him but Julian could never find it within himself to hate her. She’d left because she was sick and needed help and it was the best thing for her. The only mistake she’d made was not talking to him but in all honesty, Jules could understand that one. Bambi had denied her condition from day one and whilst Jules never really pushed it, he knew it was there, on the sidelines, waiting to rear it’s ugly head once more. He knew she needed help, which was why he wasn’t all that surprised when she left. When he complimented her, Jules could see she still didn’t really believe it and that made him frown a little, subconsciously. Even after treatment, Bambi still struggled with her image, even though she had no need to. In Julian’s eye, she was perfect. ”I mean it,” he reinforced. ”You look so much healthier.”
He smiled softly at her, holding his hands out and taking the lasagna from her, taking it to his fridge and putting it in. He was hungry but he wasn’t up for eating right now, although he’d make sure Bambi ate some when he did. ”How are you?” he asked, turning around and leaning against the cold stone counter in his apartment kitchen. ”I mean, you look healthier but do you feel it, like did it work?” he questioned, both attempting to fill the silence he knew would arrive, and rambling to cover up the tension. ”You can sit, if you want” he added quickly, offering her a gentle smile and gesturing towards the couch.

the last six months had been hard for bambi. when she layed in the hospital bed, just days after passing out in school, and her mom sat next to her and told her that she was going to send bambi to a treatment center for eating disorders all she remembered was being scared. she was afraid of what people would say. she did good enough in school so that she wouldnt have to finish her last week of school, and she didnt get to walk with her class for graduation. part of her was angry at her mother for this. graduation was a big thing, and she was going to be missing out on all of the excitement. at the same time though she knew that she wouldnt be able to wait another couple weeks to go to treatment. she knew how badly she needed help, even if she wouldnt admit it. being in treatment was hard. she missed her regular life and the people she loved. she knew it was her own fault though that they werent in her life for those months, she shut everyone else. she told people she was focusing on herself, or that she just needed her space but really she didnt want people to know how bad things were for her. she didnt want people to have to deal with her problems ontop of everything else in their lives. she knew she had just caused some people to worry more though, like her mother. she recieved a call from her atleast once a week but would never call her back. sometimes she felt bad about it, but for the longest time she was angry at her mother for just sending her away and not talking to her about it.
julian had been a huge part of her life before she left, and seeing him again brought back all kinds of old memories. she remembered when he had brought up the fact that he hardly ever saw her eat, she lied to him, she told him she ate all the time and he was just never around when she did. she said he could ask any one of her friends and they would tell her that she ate all the time. she told her friends the same lies though. she ate around them sometimes, but it wasnt very often. for the year that her and julian had been together she never wouldve admited that she needed help. she trusted him with everything else in her life besides that. seeing him brought back good memories though to. like their one year aniversary, they had been extremely happy then. they went for a picnic at the same place that julian had asked bambi out just a year before and then they spent the rest of the day together. it was a great day, a day that bambi wished she could experience again. she hoped that maybe they could have more days like that, that things could just be good for them again. she just needed to be happy again, and she wanted julian to be happy to. even if him being happy ended up with them not having a chance together again, atleast she would know that he was happy.
as he questioned whether or not treatment had helped her or not she didnt know what to say right away. he had offered her a place to sit before she had even been able to come up with an answer for him. she wasnt sure if treatment had helped her yet, she knew she still had her moments. ”yeah, i think it worked.” she said rather questionably, she wasnt confident in her own answer. she felt like she was lying to him all over again, and she didnt want that. ”actually, i dont know. i still have problems, i get myself to eat enough but i still go to work out and i know its bad but i cant stop myself. i dont want to lie to you again. every day is a struggle. ” she mumbled as she felt tears ready to welll up in her eyes. she knew that julian had seen her at her worst, but right now she didnt want to cry. so she wipped the tears out of her eyes before they had the chance to fall, hoping that julian might not notice. words: idk outfit: in the banner notes: sorry it took me foreva.
